Information regarding F1 Visas and SEVIS

Visa revocation and SEVIS terminations:

The ISS office has compiled the below information regarding SEVIS and F1 visa status for your convenience.

What does it mean?

Visa revocation: This means that your visa (that has been stamped in your passport) is no longer valid for re-entry into the US.

SEVIS termination: The termination of a student record in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) shows that the nonimmigrant no longer has F-1 status and their I-20 is no longer valid.

For a terminated SEVIS record, the student has no grace period officially. The student must either apply for reinstatement or prepare to depart the US immediately.

Note: Visa revocation does not mean that your SEVIS record is also terminated. Visa revocation itself simply means that your future re-entry into the US is not valid. But, following SEVIS termination, a student’s visa is usually also revoked. SEVIS termination is an indication that your F1 status is not active, and action needs to be taken.
